What is Somatic Dance?
Somatic Dance is essentially dancing, but with that somatic element of sensing your internal experience and responding as needed to the cues and signals from your body. It isn't choreographed, so is more focused on your own intuitive and freestyle movement.
Bree Castle (b. Saskatoon, 1999) is a dancer and visual artist based on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations. After studying Art History and Studio Art in Montréal, she joined Modus Operandi: Vancouver Contemporary Dance Program in 2019 to further her movement practice. She has performed in works at the Vancouver International Dance Festival and Dance In Vancouver, and has led dance workshops through The Polygon Gallery’s Seniors & Gallery School Programming. Bree works under an improvisational movement practice that centres intuition, allowing the body to flow into new pathways.
